c) Work Commitment

Commitment is the willingness to give your time and energy in doing things or an obligation to do something. Commitment is the founding drive of the entrepreneur. A commitment entrepreneur will do anything it takes to success. They need to do extra tasks and staying beyond their allotted schedule which means they need to sacrifice their time to do the tasks. A commitment entrepreneur need to see through with everything on the line. They also will feel passionate in what they are doing and they will never give up upon their dreams and goals.

Datuk Wan Mohammad Sani Salleh

            Datuk Wan Mohammad Sani Salleh is one of the entrepreneurs who are commitment in work. He was born in 24 July 1976. He graduated in year 1994 in Diploma of Business Management College. He now is the director of Sani United Sdn. Bhd. (Sani Express Sdn. Bhd., Sani Sdn. Bhd. and Sani Hotel Sdn. Bhd.). He has been awarded with Darjah Indera Mahkota in Jun 2009 and outstanding entrepreneur award by Dewan Perniagaan Melayu Malaysia (DPMM) at Kuala Lumpur on 2009.

            Before Datuk Wan Mohammad Sani Salleh become an entrepreneur he involved in entertainment industry. He became a model, singer and actor at the same time. Eventually, after a period he realised until when he need to life as an entertainer. Moreover, he can only using the money he gained from the work to support his daily food and life. After a few years involved in entertainment industry, he realised that he cannot gain any benefit for the future in the industry. When he compared himself to his friend Datuk Din that had been successful in business, he felt left out.

            Starting on that point, he was determined to change his living standards. He firstly open repair workshops in Kuala Lumpur and Terengganu. He also started to involved in business in transportation field such as bus which has always been his interest. It is because he always using bus during his school days.

            When he started the business in the transportation field, he faced with several challenges. He need to sleep in the offices and sacrifice his time to finish the work. This Show that, even he faces with challenge, he does not give up. He still committed with his job and work harder. In year 2003 he and two of his friend especially establish SUSB for the transport business but not long after that his friends pulled out and left he alone to handle the business. The situation was really tough for his at the moment as his need to be more careful in making decision because he need to make the decision alone without refer to anyone. Moreover, if he make a mistake in making decision, he will be in trouble.

            However, because he is a person who are committed to work, he does not give up. He only achieve the results of her business after three years. Since then his business started to grow.


b) Self Confidence

Self-confidence means having trust in what you knows, being free from anxiety and doubt and having firm belief in your abilities to handle thing or event. By having self-confidence, you belief that you are the one who control the ways you run your life and what your goals. An entrepreneur with self-confidence will belief that that ideas are better and good than others. Other than that, entrepreneurs with high self-confidence will be more effective and have positive attitude. They also able to build a branded good. Entrepreneurs with high self-confidence can reduce their stress when work as they belief in themselves.

Dato’ Haji Ramly Bin Mokni

            Dato’ Haji Ramly Bin Mokni is an example of entrepreneur who have high self-confidence. Dato’ Haji Ramly Bin Mokni is the owner of Ramly Mokni Holding Berhad and its subsidiaries Ramly Food Processing Sdn. Bhd., Ramly Supermart Sdn. Bhd. and Ramly Mokni Bakery Sdn. Bhd.

            In 1978, Malaysia had to deal with issues related to imported beef. Muslims in Malaysia, have problem to identifying whether the imported meat is halal or haram. This indirectly gives him the opportunity to engage in the manufacturing of frozen food. So he decided to produce their own beef burger. At first, he started the business with the capitol of RM2, 000 only. The location of her business was in Jalan Haji Hussein in Kampung Baru. However, his business is doomed to failure. It is because of the sluggish demand from the customers because the Asians prefer to eat rice instead of burgers.


            Even he was faced with failure, he does not give up. He still confidence with himself about to on going the business. So, he later opened a burger stall which eventually became famous. Now, the stall was easily found. Day by day, his business in increasingly in demand. Because of his high self-confidence, he still work on his business even though he faced with failure. 

a) Persuasion

Persuasion is a process of changing other people attitude, behavior, belief or the way they think  toward some idea or things when convey information, feelings or reasoning by using written or spoken. The power of persuasion can help the entrepreneur in guarantee the successful of their business. It is because, when an entrepreneur is good in persuasion skills he or she can effectively convince potential clients about his or her product or services, able to hire the best employees, can persuade others to become his or her investor and convince people to become your partners. Other than that, you also able to get support and respect from other when you are good in persuade.

Datuk Seri Dr. Hasmiza Othman

           Datuk Seri Dr. Hasmiza Othman the founder of Qu Puteh is one of the entrepreneur who are good in persuasion. She was born in Machang. She started to do business when her father died as she just only nine years old. The loss of source income make her doing business by selling anything that can give her source of income. Using the money her mother gain from selling land, she further her study to University Sains Malaysia. But, the money from selling the land cannot afford the cost of her living in the university. So she doing a business in the campus. After she gets a degree she became a teacher in Chinese school for 12 years. While working as a teacher, she further her study in a Doctorate Study.

          She doing many things to persuade the customers to trust and buy his product. She has her on style to convince people to use and buy her product. She buy an advertisement to promote her product but eventually the advertisement failed. But she does not give up. To promote her product she wears cloth that are outstanding an eye catching. She also wear a crown. With this, people will recognized her. Other than that, to persuade people to use her product, she also sponsored an actor Anzalna Nasir. After that, people the product was known by people.


Introduction of Entrepreneur

Entrepreneur can be defined as a person who starts a business and willing to risk loss in order to make money. Based on Merriam-Webster, an entrepreneur is defined as the one who organizes, manages, and assumes the risks of a business or enterprise. But actually there are many definition of entrepreneur such as an entrepreneur is the people who is combining, managing and organizing the resources including labour, capital, assets and others in the business and able to take risks and challenges (Sobel, 2003).

            An entrepreneur also defined as an innovator of new ideas and a leader in the business which is make many contributions in the economy. They will use their knowledge and skills to create splendid new ideas and then introduce it to the market (Entrepreneur, 2016). In Malaysia, government together with private agencies play a role to supporting an entrepreneur in order to encourage them and others in this business because it will contribute to national income.

            The policy makers especially shows an interest on providing a medium to an entrepreneur to start their business since the establishment of Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development (MECD), Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), Ministry of Youth and Sports, Malaysia Production Organization (FMM), Malaysia Chambers of Commerce (DpM), SIRIM, Entrepreneurs National Capital Berhad (PUNB), Development Malaysia Bank and others.


            An entrepreneur is needed has some entrepreneur traits to operate their business and become a successful entrepreneur. So in this coursework, we will discuss about entrepreneur traits. There are eight entrepreneur traits which is persuasion, self-confidence, work commitment, efficiency oriented, tolerance for failure, high initiative level, information seeking and problem solving. Some successful entrepreneurs will be applied into entrepreneur traits to understand them clearly.

In this subject, we are required to identify and describe the entrepreneurial traits that highly needed and applied to operate the business by the entrepreneurs. We also required to give an example of entrepreneur for each trait given.
